Coronado baseball teams putting in early work this season.
Coronado Dons varsity baseball team has many key players coming back to their team such as Tim Stempkowski (12), Adam Dickerson (12), Alex Buya (11), and Justin Rodriguez (12). All players, however, have a part on this team and need to step up.
“Many of our players have played together for many years; even most of them play fall ball and winter ball,” commented Coach Holmes.
This shows that the team has trust in each other and knows that each of their players will be doing their job when they need to be doing it. Trust is a big part of baseball; you have to have trust in your pitcher, in outfielders and all infielders that they will get the out. The whole baseball field is surrounded by trust.
There are players on this team that have been playing since they were in kindergarten and have a lot of experience on this field. “If experience counts for anything, then we should be in the playoffs and championships every year we play,” said Holmes.
This team has always been a contender in the 4A East Sky division facing such schools as Higley, Arcadia, and this season’s opening day matchup against Saguaro.
Every player is looking forward to every game that they do, and every hit, and catch they have. They always look for their one chance to have the “game winning catch” or the game winning home run. All three of these teams, the Freshman, JV, and Varsity teams, are all looking for the chance to show who they are and who Coronado is as a team. With Varsity’s first game on February 24, at Cesar Chavez, go out and support your Dons.
JV and Freshman first games are on March 4th against Saguaro, both at Saguaro.
