CD Review

“The stars lean down to kiss you/And I lie awake and miss you,” is just one of the lyrics to Owl City’s debut album.

Throughout Ocean Eyes, lead singer Young sets his breathy voice over gentle and relaxing laptop beats and goes on about love, the joy of spying fireflies and how he gets nervous when going to the dentist, that almost all of us are. Often, Young sounds like a younger version of the Postal Service (alternative rock band). Many songs on this album stand out for their lyrical appeal.  For example, “Fireflies”, lyrically a fantastic track, may be a little slow but it lets your imagination soar to new heights.

So my recommendation is if you like the acoustic versions of tracks by bands like Boys Like Girls (alternative band) and by HelloGoodbye (electronica band), you will love this album.

My rating: ****1/2 (out of five)
