A Coronadian Night May 1st

The ‘An Arabian Night’ theme gets students pumped for our 2010 Junior-Senior Prom

Every year around this time, Coronado juniors and seniors get pumped up for a very special event: Prom. All the ladies start shopping for that perfect prom dress and all our gentlemen start thinking of clever ideas to ask out their date.

This year, Student Government (StuGo) came up with the theme of “An Arabian Night”. Prom will be held at the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center located at 7700 E. McCormick Parkway on Saturday, May 1st, 2010. Starz Entertainment will be the DJ for this event and Duke Photography will happily take you and your date’s pictures upon arrival. Tickets are now $55 per ticket.

The party starts at eight so don’t be late because this is a prom you’re going to remember!

We can thank StuGo’s prom committee for coming up with such a different and interesting theme. Junior Meli Ruiz and others on the committee brainstormed and came up with several ideas for this year’s prom. While narrowing down the choices, they decided to start visiting locations in the Valley to get a better idea of where prom should be. After a trip to the Scottsdale Resort, they decided on “Arabian Nights.” StuGo advisor Ms. Winget commented that “the location chose the theme. They visited half dozen sites and loved the look of the Scottsdale Resort. It has a beautiful ballroom.” Coincidently, the ballroom where prom will be hosted is title the Coronado Room. This gorgeous ballroom seemed to seal the deal for StuGo.

But what does the student body think of “Arabian Nights”?

Senior Stephanie Valenzuela likes the theme because “it’s different…I hope it’s as good as I want it to be!”

Her sister, Melissa Valenzuela, thinks the theme is “[okay], but I wish they would have chosen something more classy.” Both girls agreed that decorations can make or break a prom theme.

StuGo chose blue, purple and gold as the theme colors. These ‘Arabian’ hues will surely set an Aladdinesque mood for a picture perfect evening. Senior Shauntrell Johnson also commented that she believes “’An Arabian Night’ is totally epic!”

Shauntrell continued to say that “[her] favorite part about prom is just the fact that the girls get all sexy and the boys look mighty fine!” On the other hand, senior Sarah Kuczyk doesn’t plan on going to prom but her favorite part last year was the food and said “I’m an awful dancer.”

One who plans on getting a limo, Jairo Ibarra (12), proudly said his personal favorite is “looking the best out of my limo group.”  Melissa says her favorite part of prom is “seeing what everyone else is wearing and getting my makeup done at M.A.C.!” Stephanie agrees saying, “I love getting my hair and makeup done! And getting dressed up!” Besides hair and makeup, senior Lauren White said her favorite part would be “dancing with my friends”.

With a great theme, good DJ and plenty of floor space to dance on, you and your friends will have an amazing time.

With that, senior Nicolle Brent says prom is too expensive and that’s why she’s decided to skip it this year.  For any other Dons considering going to prom yet have financial difficulties, learn about the “Golden Carpet” to get you transportation to prom for free and eating at Fiesta Burrito.  To do so, click the above link or seeing a Coronado Explorer staffer at lunch holding a “Golden Carpet” sign.

Ms. Winget wanted to let students know that prom isn’t about where you eat for dinner, how much your dress costs, or what kind of limo you arrive in. What makes prom is the group you’re with.

With that said get a group together and make this the best prom ever however you can. See you there!
