Learn about Japan this weekend.
Annual events, well, come every year to the Valley and one of the closing events in the month of February is the Matsuri, an event held at the Heritage and Science Park in Phoenix Arizona on Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th.
The Matsuri is a ‘festival of Japan’ that showcases the culture of Japan, the Japanese and those who practice and are affiliated with their art, skills and culture.
Modern or traditional, Japanese or Japanese-American, the Matsuri is designed to display the culture to its fullest with a tent-city styled festival with booths and stands set up around the park-grounds luring the common passerby’s eye or nose for that matter. Smells from over 13 food vendors can be found like Kirin Wok and Nagasaki Grill along with a variety of other vendors like SumoFish and Samurai Comics, a comic retailer which sells Japanese and American styled comics.
Itineraries for the Matsuri in past years are usually packed with events, and the 2010 schedule is no different, with over twenty cultural events staged by performers of all ages the Science and Heritage Park will be alive with music song and dance and much more.
So if you’re in the Phoenix downtown area this Saturday or Sunday (27th-28th), stop by the Heritage and Science Park from around 11 am to 4 pm to catch the 26th Matsuri, a festival of Japan.
