Spring Training On Deck in the Desert

Spring Training, Cactus League games soon to begin.

This year Spring training started earlier for several teams this year including our home team the Arizona Diamondbacks.Last season the Diamondbacks ended their season with a record of 70-92, last place in the NL West.

The D-Backs manager wanted their team to start earlier  and review the basics. More  teams were added this year  to the Cactus League here in Arizona. The Cincinnati Reds will now be part of the Cactus League.Due to all the big money trades we could have a very intresting outcome this season from all the clubs in the league.

For example the Mariners acquired Cliff Lee  with a record of 14-13 and a 3.22 era from the Phillies in a three player deal. In the NL-West the Diamondbacks are in the fight with the L.A Dodgers for  a spot in the postseason again this year. The D-backs have a monstrous  pitching rotation  with Ace Brandon Webb,Dan Haren and newly acquired Edwin Jackson. The Dodgers have lost many stars but still have All Star slugger Manny Ramirez.

In the American League the Yankees, of course, are the top choice to win the division and title, now they  have something to worry about. During the offseason the Yanks traded key players who could change the way they progress throughout this season to come.

For the home team the Arizona Diamondbacks’ future looks bright entering this season, especially when the New York Yankees are in town in June.

We asked a couple students from CHS to give us their thoughts on the upcoming season.

T.J Kittle (11) noted that the Dodgers “are stacked all around and have team chemistry.”

How Far are the D-backs getting this postseason? Brianna Brackus (11) thinks  “the D-backs are going all the way with our amazing pitchers.”
