Football season ushers in spirit days

September 4, 2018

The beginning of the football season brings with it many different ways to express school spirit. One of the easiest ways to show school spirit is to participate in dress up days.

Dress up days occur every day Coronado’s football team plays a game. The first dress up day was this past Friday, August 31st, when Coronado played Andress at home. The week’s theme was “Red, white, and better than you.”

This year, there will be eight dress up days ranging from all-out pink to superhero wear.

On Thursday, September 6th, the T-Birds will take on the El Dorado Aztecs at El Dorado. The dress up day’s theme is Dynamic Duo, a day where students can “twin,” or match outfits, with other students.

On Friday, September 14th, the dress up theme will be “Confuse the Cavemen”, encouraging students to mismatch their outfits. The Coronado football team with take on the Carlsbad Cavemen at home.

On Friday, September 21st, the Coronado football team will take on Eastlake High School at Eastlake. The theme of the dress up day will be “Light up the Titians.” Students should wear neon-colored clothing or accessories.

On Thursday, October 11th, Coronado will take on the Montwood Rams at home with the mission to “Wrangle the Rams.” To show school spirit, students are encouraged to wear a Western themed outfit.

On Friday, October 26th, the game plan is to “Pink out the Bulldogs” when Coronado takes on Socorro, so students should wear pink to school.

On Friday, November 2nd, Coronado will play against Americas at home. The theme of the day will be “Let Down the Trailblazers” and students should dress in Hawaiian clothing.

As this game is the last home game of the season, the T-Birds will be celebrating senior night. “My freshman year I wasn’t interested in showing school spirt but as I’ve gotten older I know see how important it is to take pride in your school,” senior Maddy Benway said. “My favorite way to show school spirit is dressing up for theme days and going to football games.”

On Friday, November 9th, Coronado will play their last district game against Pebble Hills High School at Pebble Hills. The theme will be “Tie-Dye the Spartans” so students should wear tie-dye clothing. “I love tie-dye day so this is a dream come true,” junior Dora Goldstein said.
