The Westside welcomes a new shopping center.

West Towne saves the Westside

September 22, 2018

Establishments like Raising Cane’s, Baked Bear, and Walmart have recently opened at the Westside’s new shopping center, West Towne Marketplace.

“West Towne is bringing a lot of new places to El Paso that have never been here before,” sophomore Paola Saavedra said.

A favorite addition among many people is Baked Bear, an ice cream sandwich and brownie restaurant. They currently have 28 locations across the USA, with the first one opening in Pacific Beach, California.

“Baked bear is one of my favorite dessert spots in El Paso because of all the different options they have for you to choose from,” sophomore Katia Steadman said.

People are flocking to the new retail stores that have opened up in the marketplace. El Paso’s first Cabela’s and a Super Walmart have been the most popular stores there, with Walmart claiming one of the biggest US openings ever.

“I really like the new Cabela’s because they satisfy all of my outdoor needs,” senior Jack Niland said.

West Towne will also welcome a cinema; this nine-screen theater is expected to open up around February 14th.

Covering 500,000 square feet on 63 acres of land, this shopping center is also host to Rack Room shoes, HomeGoods, PetSmart, Ross Dress for Less, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and T.J. Maxx. Food places include Baked Bear, ICE NY, Menchie’s, Chipotle, and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.
