Applying early benefits students

September 12, 2018

There it was again. That dreaded first-period bell chiming through the halls on the first day back at school, reminding students that summer is officially over and that real-world duties have returned.

Many seniors have to decide whether they should apply early action, early decision, or regular decision. Early action deadlines typically fall near early November, which means all the work that comes with applying is wrapped up just as the holidays approach. As for hearing back about their college’s early action decisions, applicants usually receive the news towards the end of December, which can be a great holiday gift for those who receive that glorious acceptance letter.

Unlike early decision applicants, those who apply early action don’t have to deal with the stress of being tied down to one school. When applying regular decision, most students have until May 1st to commit and can apply early to more than one college of their choice. Plus, applying early can often add a slight push to a students’ chances of being accepted.

Not only does applying early take pressure off of applicants, but it gives seniors the chance to fully prepare themselves for the change that’s about to come. Finding out where students will attend college gives them the time to finally step back and focus on other priorities. With the constant stress of not having a guaranteed plan for the future, so many students forget that high school memories last a lifetime. Applying early action and knowing what the plan is for the following four years gives students the opportunity to enjoy their years now.

Yes, applying early means students are putting themselves in a pool along with the other go-getters, which can make it a bit more difficult to shine. But if seniors know they want to pursue a higher education and have a strong feeling about which university is the best fit, applying early action is the best way to go.
