Basketball teams prepare for the 2018-2019 season
October 23, 2018
As football season comes to a close, basketball players warm up to start their upcoming season.
Last year, the boys’ basketball team ended their season with an 8-6 record. This allowed them to finish third in the district behind Pebble Hills, who won second, and Americans, who won the district title.
Since school started, basketball players have been playing open gyms, lifting, and conditioning to help prepare for their first practice, this Wednesday, October 24th.
“We’ve been working really hard every day, during class and after school on things we saw last season that we need to improve for this year,” junior Hank Hayes said.
Players have been working extra hard in hopes of winning the district title in year.
“As a team we have been working super hard; we really want to dominate this season and take the district title,” junior Sebastian Alvarez.
Even freshmen, who are new to the Coronado basketball program, are super excited for their first season as thunderbirds.
“I’m slightly nervous for my first season with the basketball program but I’m even more excited to play for my school. We have been working super hard with the upper classmen to help prepare for our first season,” freshman Harrison Hall said.
All three boys’ basketball teams face the Eagles for their first game on Friday, November 9th, at Andress.
The girls’ basketball team is also warming up to play their upcoming season.
Last season the girls’ team finished with a 2-12 record, landing them at the bottom of the district standings. But this year, with new head coach Eric Weaver, the team is hoping for a totally new season.
The team has been very welcoming towards Weaver and look forward to his approach for the season.
“I really like the new coach, he has been totally different and really encouraging us for a good season,” junior Melanie Munden said.
The girls’ basketball team will face the Mustangs on Friday November 2nd, at Burges High School. All three boys’ basketball teams face the Eagles for their first game on Friday, November 9th, at Andress.
Both teams are excited for this upcoming season and are hoping for improvement from their previous season.
