Sohail prepares to exceed expectations in senior season

October 30, 2018

With basketball season kicking off, senior Ayaan Sohail prepares for his senior season. Sohail has been on the varsity squad since his sophomore year and has improved dramatically over the years.

“My work ethic and dedication to whatever I’m doing in my life has allowed me to grow since my freshman to senior year,” Sohail said.

Sohail has received attention from Division 1 (D1) schools such as North Carolina Central, Elon University, and Eastern Washington University. In June, Sohail received his first D1 offer from the University of Hartford in Newington, Connecticut. This interest also comes from his performance on his travel team, Team Fusion, he played with this past summer.

“I know once the basketball stops bouncing, education is what matters most,” Sohail said. “All the hard work I have put on the court and in class is what enabled me to receive Division I offers and that’s nothing but a blessing.”

Despite being the attention of multiple D1 universities, Sohail keeps his head down and leads his fellow players on the court.

“Ayaan is always talking and encouraging everyone on the court,” junior Hank Hayes said. “He has the team in mind and pushes us all to work our hardest in practice, so that we perform our best in the season.”

In the sixth grade, Sohail decided to play basketball for his school team. Sohail credits his older brother with his love for basketball; watching his brother on the court inspired Sohail to take his career to where it is today.

Although he enjoys putting in work on the court, Sohail has many interests outside of basketball; he enjoys working out, hanging out with friends, going to the movies, doing community service, and spending time with family.

Sohail hopes to finish his high school career strong when the team play against Andress on November 9th.
