The crash of pins echo a “STRIKE!”, and with a grin of accomplishment spread across his face, Mr. Robert Stives watches as the bowling ball rolls back towards him.

Mr. Stives began his bowling career his senior year in high school where he shot his first ever 300 hundred (a perfect score). Mr. Stives grew up in a family full of bowlers, so he quickly picked up the knack for it.

“I grew up in a bowling alley at a young age, I remember during the summers my grandpa would come pick me up and we would go bowl at Fort Bliss.” Stives said.

Aside from the competitiveness of the sport, Mr. Stives also enjoys the lifelong relationships he has created throughout his years of bowling. He has gained strong friendships with all the people he has bowled with. Bowling has also allowed him to travel to a number of different places such as Colorado, Odessa, and Las Vegas.

“Bowling has offered a lot of things for me,” Stives said. “I’ve got to travel and I’ve been given the opportunity to create many strong bonds with all the people I bowl with.”

With his new role in Coronado’s administration, his bowling career is no longer his main focus. However, he still enjoys going out on Thursday nights to enjoy a night of bowling with his friends.

“Bowling has slowly become more recreational rather than my actual career,” Stives said. “Bowling isn’t really my profession; my profession is here at Coronado.”
