‘It Chapter Two’ gains approval of fans
October 9, 2019
It can be a tricky process when beloved novels are put up on the big screen. “It Chapter Two” was released on Sept. 6, 2019, following its successful 2017 predecessor. Fans were quick to notice the return of beloved actors, as well as the addition of wonderful new cast members. With a run time of 169 minutes, the new release had plenty of time to tell a story of return and revenge 27 years after its predecessor’s plot.
Based off the Stephen King novels, “It Chapter Two” sees the return of child actors Jaeden Martell as Bill, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie, Finn Wolfhard as Richie, Sophia Lillis as Beverly, Chosen Jacobs as Mike, and Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben. The young actors are accompanied by their older selves, played by Jessica Chastain as Beverly, Bill Hader as Richie, James McAvoy as Bill, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike, James Ransone as Eddie, Jay Ryan as Ben, and Andy Bean as Stanley. This powerful cast created collective anticipation and excitement among fans of the story.
Countless amounts of work and fine attention to detail was put into the final product. Post production computer-generated imagery (CGI) was added to the young actors to make them appear as if no time has passed between the two movies’ production periods, which was fundamental to the plot. Audio alterations were also included in the final productions to keep the child actors’ voices constant as they aged during filming.
Mixed opinions were expressed about the film’s length. It left some feeling that the plot was rushed during its main build up and then dragged out for the remainder of the film. Although some fans felt the movie was unnecessarily stretched, many agreed that, as a whole, “It Chapter Two” proved itself to be an entertaining and adrenaline-building piece.
Finding new and unique ways to bring frightening elements to the big screen can be difficult when trying to please all audiences. Director Andrés Muschietti was able to combine a classic horror novel with modern screenwriting to create a masterpiece thriller. Without a doubt, “It Chapter Two” earned its place in top 2019 horror movie releases.
