On Thursday, September 6, Student Council set up the first pep rally of the year in honor of the football team’s first home game against El Dorado. The boys’ first “Friday night lights” of the year was set to take place on Thursday evening. Kicking off the season – on the brand-new field – students and faculty met during lunch in C building to celebrate the football team’s hard work and preparation for the big game with a pop-up pep rally.

Students arrived at the pep rally dressed up for the blackout theme and placed themselves around the first floor to eat their lunch. Due to the lack of space in C building, the Thunderettes performed a chant instead of a dance routine. In the past years, all the pep rallies have taken place in the large gym, but due to the EPISD bond, the gym is under construction and unavailable for use.

The varsity cheer squad performed a few cheers. The volleyball team followed and was introduced and congratulated on their win against Centennial last Tuesday night. The girls won in a three-set sweep and continue their winning streak early on this season.

Concluding the event, all of the students cheered loudly for the varsity football team. Safety Dallas Slaughter said a few words about the upcoming game and introduced the starting lineup.

“Last week we didn’t get the results we wanted, but we’ve worked really hard preparing for El Dorado tonight. We are all excited and ready for a good game in front of our home crowd,” Quarterback Ben Carney said.

After the speech, the cheer team performed a few more cheers. Student attendees received their free Coronado stickers before heading back to class, enthused and excited for the possibilities of the football season.
