Lush Cosmetics to open in the Sun City

November 1, 2019

El Paso is finally starting to bring in more well-known and trendy stores. It has been announced Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, an organic wellness and cosmetic store chain, will open a location at the Cielo Vista Mall sometime in the near future. Lush is much more than a company that sells its famous bath bombs: it is a cosmetic retailer for bath, body, skin, and haircare.

Lush stores are famous for their handmade, organic products, resulting in the company opening over 900 store locations all over the world. Out of the 198 stores in the United States, 16 – and soon to be 17 – are located in Texas. Common products purchased include soap, moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, bath bombs, and face wash. 80% of their handmade products are vegan, and 100% of their products are free from non-vegetarian animal extracts. The company does not test on animals either, one of the many issues they advocate. Others include promoting transgender rights, ending the death penalty, banning trophy hunting, aiding Syrian refugees, and playing a role in environmental sustainability.

In spite of – or perhaps due to – the company’s political involvement, the company has grown tremendously since its founding in 1995, and it continues to expand. The Cielo Vista Mall announced that it will be opening a Lush store in their mall, although the precise date is unknown. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, the store will likely open in the coming months. The department also announced that the cost to open this store will be about $395,000, and Droese Raney Architecture will be designing the new store.

“I feel that Lush coming to El Paso will be very beneficial and bring many people to the Cielo Vista Mall,” junior Griselda Sainz said. “The store will be very well off economically due to the high demand for their organic products.”

The closest Lush stores are located in Albuquerque, NM and Tucson, AZ, so the El Paso location is expected to bring in tons of revenue and visitors.  Many students are big fans of their organic products and will contribute the store’s income or even apply for a job once the store opens.
