The field house, which was dedicated on Jan. 24, will bear the handprints of the students and coaches in outside sports.

New Field House

February 19, 2020

With the 2016 EPISD bond, Coronado was presented the opportunity to improve the classrooms as well as the athletic facilities. It is now able to construct a field house for all of the outdoor sports to use. It will be a two-story multipurpose building including locker rooms, storage, and the trainers. Downstairs will be football, trainers, and utility, while the upstairs will include baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and boys’ and girl’s tennis.

Last Friday, all outdoor sports took part in a ceremony to leave their mark on the new field house. Two members from each sport were invited to put their hand prints on a cinderblock that would be used to build the field house. Each player dipped one hand in gold and one hand in blue paint and wrote their name, number, and/or their class year. For this year’s seniors, this event was a moment they would never forget because they will be a part of Coronado’s athletics forever.

As of now, athletic coordinator and football coach Robert Anderson has said that it is likely that they will be moving their fairly new lockers from the old locker room to the field house.

“The plan right now is to move out of the office and the weight room for the ROTC to move in,” Coach Anderson said. “We will most likely be transferring the equipment from the weight room to the locker room.”

He hopes that they will include new lockers to complete the nice cosmetics of the field house. There will be nice skins to promote school pride throughout the building. There will also be new carts to store equipment for the teams to utilize space and make the most of the field house.

The construction of the school has taken a long time to get started and will be a long time to complete, but the field house is currently predicted to be complete by the 4th of July weekend. The goal for now is to have the teams moved in by July 15. This new addition will help the sports avoid crowded locker rooms and allow their teams to strive for nothing but the best.
