Selena Gomez’s album “Rare” opens door to very successful career

April 20, 2020

There is no better title for Selena Gomez’s album than “Rare.” This album holds the reputation to its name and is so different than anything Gomez had previously created. The album was released on Jan. 10 and became the third studio album by Gomez. Just recently, though, Gomez released her “Rare Deluxe Album,” which features four additional songs not on the initial album. In this album, Gomez gets personal about her struggles and problems with her health, making it different from her previous albums.

Gomez typically focuses her music around love songs or hype songs. “Rare,” on the other hand, was completely different because it focuses on her personal life. She sings about her anxiety, panic attacks, and depression throughout the entire album. These problems have affected Gomez tremendously, causing her to be diagnosed as bipolar. There have been many theories about this album since it was her first in five years. Her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber recently got married, leaving many to believe her album was focused on their relationship. The most famous song, “Lose You to Love Me,” is said to be focused on Gomez recently being released from treatment for her health issues.

“When I wrote the song, I was basically saying that I needed to hit rock-bottom to understand that there was this huge veil over my face,” Gomez told Interview Magazine.

This new album has led many of Gomez’s fans to believe she is seeking to be in a relationship and find a boyfriend. In her song “Boyfriend,” Gomez explains the difference between wanting and needing a boyfriend. Some fans believe that another hit song on this album, “Feel Me,” also expresses Gomez’s want for a boyfriend. However, Gomez clarified her meaning.

“Many of you know how excited I’ve been to release a song called ‘Boyfriend,'” she said in an Instagram post. “It’s a lighthearted song about falling down and getting back up time and time again in love, but also knowing that you don’t need anyone other than yourself to be happy.”

Though Gomez’s music has shifted to a more personal path, she still continues to receive support from all of her fans. Through this album, she was able to inspire more people just like her. In her album “Rare,” she was able to openly express her personal issues and find a way to deal with them. This has led her to many new future endeavors, such as an upcoming make-up line called Rare Beauty. Gomez has hope for her future and whether that be in music or cosmetics, fans are eager to see what she does next.
