“Bridgerton” has quickly amassed a large fan base and millions of streams on Netflix. The show follows eight siblings’ attempts to find love in Regency era England.

In the darkness of the COVID-19 pandemic, Netflix just released the pilot season of a TV show that has been trending. The show Bridgerton premiered on Dec. 25, 2020. It has been so popular that they already got approved for a second season.

Netflix estimates that 82 million households have streamed “Bridgerton” in the first 28 days. It has become the fifth most-watched Netflix original series in company history since its debut.

Bridgerton” is said to be a mix between “Gossip Girl” and Pride and Prejudice. Fans enjoy it because it is mysterious, scandalous, and romantic in the most dramatic way.

“I loved it; it was such a good show!” junior Corbin Bettes said. “The story line was interesting and the suspense with Lady Whistledown made me want to keep watching it. The drama between the Duke and Daphne was super engaging.”

Even though the show was based of the year 1813, it has a modern twist to it. For example, the most popular songs from 2020 are in the show’s soundtrack. They also incorporated some modern-day problems but kept an older aesthetic. The producers tried to keep the show as diverse as they could.

“I binge watched ‘Bridgerton’ in a day,” sophomore Iza Yanar said. “I was so invested in the show and literally could not stop watching it. I felt like I knew the characters personally. I love “Gossip Girl, and this was like a royal “Gossip Girl.” I can’t wait for season 2 to come out!”

Netflix plans on filming and releasing season 2 very soon, and fans are very excited to see what comes next in the show. But for now, it’s easy to say this show has been a big hit.
