Our Teachers, Campus Teaching Coaches (CTC), and Admin have decided to start a reward incentive for students who were not able to meet requirements for the grades 8-11 STAAR tests. These students must complete 15-30 hours of tutoring. These hours are logged and tracked by the district and state of Texas through CCRP.
“Students who attend HB1416 accelerated instruction will win a ‘food’ gift card if they earn at least 6 tutoring hours for the month.” stated Campus Teaching Coach Mrs. Yost
The goal is to make it more inviting to students by providing food during the session and the reward of getting a gift card to restaurants surrounded by Coronado for every six hours of tutoring completed. The introduction of a reward transforms tutoring sessions into a monthly challenge, encouraging students to consistently invest in their academic growth.
“Each month, students can earn a gift card to either chick fila, whole foods, Panda express, places like those. “The gift cards are an incentive for consistent, substantial attendance of accelerated instruction that is required by TEA (Texas Education Agency).” said Mrs. Yost
They are doing this to help students excel in their test scores. The CTC are doing this to help students excel in their test scores. The repetition of this cycle makes a culture of dedication and perseverance vital for academic success. TEA states: “students who struggled in standardized tests need extra help, and this program is a way to make them want to do it regularly. It combines the rule about learning more with a fun reward system that matches what students like.”
Students needing to complete HB1416 tutoring hours should take advantage of this opportunity provided by Mrs. Yost that lasts through April.
