Powder Buff is game tradition where the girls’ volleyball team holds tryouts for junior and senior boys and assembles a team. The concept of powder buff is to get senior and junior boys to participate in a volleyball game against Franklin.
This year it’s the first year they include juniors in the powder buff game. The past years it has only been seniors competing against Franklin. Last year Franklin defeated Coronado 2 sets to 1.
With the first junior powder buff, most of the players on the junior team are excited and confident about the game and think they will leave with the win. “I think it’s going to be a good game, but we will win the first junior powder buff”. Junior Juan Pablo Cardena said. The junior coaches are also confident in the team they have built and picked from tryouts.
Varsity starter and powder buff coach Jena says she thinks the team is going to practice hard over these few weeks and come out with a win. “As the coach of the junior powder buff I am confident in the team we picked and I think we will win.” Junior Jena Annabi said.
With star player Matthew Rodriguez breaking his leg, coach Jenna is going to have to adjust the team, but still has confidence in every player in her team to get the win.
This is a very fun tradition because we get to play our rivals, Franklin, so it really brings everyone’s school spirit and competitiveness out of everyone. “The concept of powderpuff is to get all the guys together and make a team out of all the senior class and hopefully beat Franklin”. Senior Alina Strickler said.
The Powder Buff game will be this Monday, May 20th at 5pm. Make sure you buy your tickets!
