A new academic school year brings new school policies. These policies were officially implemented on the first day of school-August 5th.
The biggest change will be in the attendance policies. As per district policy, phone calls will no longer be counted as sufficient documentation for absences. Parents must submit all attendance notes using one of the following methods: Email to [email protected], scanning the attendance QR code to upload an attendance note, or visiting the campus attendance department and turning in a hard copy of an attendance note. In addition to this, students are only permitted 8 excused absences per year.
“It’s not a good policy because students can have emergencies and two full-day absences is just not enough,” said senior Maximo Ganser.
There has also been a change in parking policies. All students are required to get a new parking pass. The old parking permits are no longer valid. There has been added student parking. The parking lot in front of the Fine Arts building will now function as eligible parking for students in addition to the ag and tennis parking lots, as well as the parking lot on Thunderbird Alley.
Students are no longer allowed to eat inside of buildings during lunch. They are only allowed to eat in the courtyard or in the cafeteria. Students are allowed to eat inside of the building if they are supervised by a teacher. Many members of the staff support this decision, as they believe it will make the campus cleaner.
“Kids were so messy, and they kept reminding them to clean up and nobody ever did. There’s a cafeteria for students who don’t want to eat outside,” said art teacher-Mr. Hernandez.
This year, IDs are mandatory for all students. Students must now pay $10 for two copies of photo IDs as well as a lanyard.
Dress code will now be strictly enforced. The district prohibits pictures or writings on clothing that are offensive in nature, advertise tobacco products, alcohol, or drugs, or are evidence of membership in any unauthorized club or organization. Clothing must completely cover the area of one’s body from the arm pit to the middle of the thigh. All undergarments must be completely covered and any see-through clothing with rips are prohibited.
