This year Coronado and Franklin will be doing a Holiday Blessings Drive for Moye Elementary this Christmas season. Students from All Execs and Student council will be participating in the event.
Christmas is a time of giving and EPISD is planning to do just that, Coronado and Franklin will be giving back to the communities disadvantaged schools.
The Holiday Blessings drive is a community service project where students “adopt” a child from a low-income elementary school and give them Christmas gifts of their choosing.
Students are allowed to participate individually or in groups. Those sponsoring someone are required to give an outfit or shoes, blanket or pajamas, a requested toy and a needed item.
This event is organized by the student council who believes that it helps the student body tremendously.
“This project allows students to help the community and build awareness, letting students become more aware of those in need. It’s a really unifying experience just knowing the whole school is doing it and are coming together as a community.” Student Council
Gifts are passed out to the kids on December 12th. The tradition is one Coronado has kept alive for more than 10 years.
“This is something Coronado is deeply committed to. We love getting to give to those who are less fortunate” Student Council Advisor Natalie Mendoza says.
Fatima Buchanan and Gensis Garcia from Freshmen Exec got a girl named Love and gave her a teddy bear and new shoes she asked for. They said that it felt good to do the drive.
“It felt like we were really helping someone, and we would like to do it again in the future.” Fatima Buchanan and Gensis Garcia said.
The gifts being given are the only ones the children receive, and this drive lets kids feel a little bit more of the Christmas magic this time of year.
