On Monday, January 20th, Donald Trump and JD Vance will be sworn into office and passed the responsibilities of the president by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This has been the second time in American history that a president served a second, nonconsecutive term since Grover Cleveland in 1893.
Although the schedule for Donald Trump’s inauguration starts on the 18th, the inauguration, military inspection, and parade will be on the 20th. Times for the events are not listed but it is certain that Donald Trump will be sworn in as president at 12pm EST (2 hours ahead of MST).
The inauguration will be held in front of the Capitol Building’s West entrance, tickets to enter the stands were presold and allow the public to enter as early as 5:00am.
President Elect Trump’s Itinerary starts with a morning mass at St. John’s Church. After which, Donald Trump and Joe Biden meet at the White house for a tea ceremony. This event is for both Trump and Biden to talk before the ceremony and represent a professional transition of power.
After the tea ceremony, The President and Vice president will meet in front of the Capitol Building to officially swear in Trump and Vance. The historic tradition of holding the inauguration in front of the Capitol Building started with Thomas Jefferson in 1801, who was sworn into presidency in Washington D.C., the new capital of the United States. The oath given to the incoming president is usually recited by the Chief of Justice of the Supreme Court, although any judge can recite it. The oath was first given during George Washinton’s inauguration, when he famously claimed, “I walk on untrodden ground.” Joe Biden officially renounces his presidency at 11:00am, but Donald Trump is formerly sworn in at 12:00 pm EST.
Spectators are then treated to the Presidential Inaugural Parade. Branches of Military alongside schools across the country parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, down to the White House. This tradition came from Thomas Jefferson’s second inauguration in 1805, when he ran toward the White House on horseback, Music was blasted down the Streets and Mechanics from the nearby Naval Yard marched behind Thomas Jefferson.
The Day ends with Trump attending 3 consecutive balls; The Commander in Chief Ball, the Liberty Inaugural Ball, and the Starlight Ball. Trump intends to address a speech in all 3.
The 21st Begins with the National Prayer Service, and Donald Trump’s First day back in office.
