What is intercession you may ask? It’s an opportunity for all students to get free support and tutoring for the upcoming STAAR test. This intercession is available to all students, however, is not mandatory.
The school is staffed with 18 teachers to work during intercession, and they will be providing tutoring in math, science, English, and social studies. Teachers will focus mainly on Math and English.
The students will be taught how to be more strategic at answering test questions, which helps make them be more confident about test taking. This tutoring not only helps them learn the best ways to test take but also provides them with content to study on their own.
“I’ve seen kids who come in, maybe they’re here all three days, maybe only two, but they always leave feeling more confident,” AP Adriana Herrera says.
This intercession will take place Wednesday March 5th through Friday March 7th, every day from 9am to 12 pm. Students will receive a 15 min break in between their studying. All the tutoring will be held in A building on the first and second floor.
Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for all the students who come to the intercession.
“Right now, is the time to come because the test is just right around the corner, it’s in April”, Herrera says encouraging students to take advantage of the opportunity.
Although this tutoring is not mandatory by the school, the State of Texas mandates students who previously failed the STAAR test to complete hb(house bill) 14-16 hours of tutoring before they retest. This is to ensure that students get the help they need to perform well on the retake of the STAAR.
