Big things come in small packages and Ant-Man and the Wasp are a clear example of that.

Sequel to the 2015 film called Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp is the latest iteration to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, and Michael Douglas. The plot revolves around the Ant-Man’s and The Wasp’s efforts to get Janet Van Dyne (Wasp’s mom) out of the Quantum Realm while dealing with the mysterious villain Ghost.

This film opens up a few months after the events of Captain America: Civil War, in which Ant-Man was imprisoned for not signing up for the Sokovia Accords. In between the events of these two films he was given the chance to serve a house arrest, two years have passed since he started this and he is only 3 days from finishing his sentence. He is then contacted by the Wasp and Hank Pym who need help getting Janet Van Dyne out of the Quantum Realm, in which she has been stuck for 30 years.

Ant-Man and The Wasp was a surprisingly solid and fun film, while we are all still reeling from the shocking effects of Infinity War, this movie was a nice filler while Avengers 4 releases. The humor in this film like the first one is well executed and it had me laughing all throughout.

The characters felt real and you felt what they were feeling, for example you felt Scott Pym’s problems to try to be both a father and a superhero at the same time. The Wasp also got a good story arc trying to get her mother out of the Quantum Realm, a prison of sorts. You felt each characters bond and their interactions were wonderful.

The Wasp got more of the spotlight this movie, actually making her the first female superhero with a leading role. Her action scenes were intense and the use of the shrinking powers was well used. Although Ant-Man wasn’t left behind either with a focus more on his giant powers more than his shrinking one.

Lately Marvel has been aiming to have more sympathetic villains such as Kilmonger from Black Panther. Ghost falls into this category having a tragic backstory that clearly defines her as a villain but nonetheless makes you feel for what she is going through.

Overall Ant-Man and The Wasp was a fun film that had me laughing and biting my nails the whole run. The characters are well done and the action is great as always. If you haven’t had a chance to go see this in theatres I strongly urge you to, you will not regret it.

A sequel has not yet been announced but you can look forward to Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson which comes out early 2019.
