As the long-awaited rivalry game approaches, football players and student body are preparing for the game against Franklin.
The football team has had a strong season so far, winning against Burgess and Andress in the first two games. Their record is currently 3-0.
They played on Friday, September 20th against Parkland High School which resulted in another win with a final score of 30-10.
“I’m really happy about how the season is going and it’s only possible because of my teammates and coaches. My teammates always give 110% and my coaches have great schemes every week,” varsity football player Lucas Gonzalez said.
The upcoming Westside bowl is the biggest game of the year for both Franklin and Coronado, as the winner will receive the Westside Bowl trophy. It is also the first district game of the season. Currently, Franklin has a record of 1-2.
“We started making practices longer and more physical and we hit every single day so we can get ready for the big game,” senior football player Xaevean Rivas said.
The Senior Executive Committee sold Westside Bowl shirts over the last couple of weeks to promote the big game. In another effort to foster excitement, the week leading up to Westside Bowl will be Spirit Week, dedicated to raising school spirit through various dress-up days for students.
“This year we’re trying to do more interactive dress up days in effort to draw in more community involvement. Our goal is so change the culture of Coronado and bring back t-bird spirit,” Pride and Patriotism Committee Chair Monet Munoz said.
The themes for each day are as follows:
Monday: Put The Cougs To Sleep! – Wear your pjs
Tuesday: Sport And Support – Wear purple in honor of Emmanuel
Wednesday: Color Wars – 9:Yellow/10: Green/11: Blue/12: Red
Thursday: White, Blue, and Gold – Show your school pride!
Friday: Tie Up The Cougs! -Wear a tie
