The baseball team swept the Midland Bulldogs last Friday May 1st and 2nd, beating them both days.
The baseball team had a district record of 14-4 before entering the playoffs. They ended up beating Eastlake to clinch 1st place in the district. The team has not made the playoffs since 2018, but the coaches and players have put in hard work all year to get to this point. Showing off their talent this season, the baseball team is looking at a great future ahead of them.
“The players have worked their butts off all season to get here, now it’s the fun part,” Coach, Juan Orozco, said.
Before entering the playoffs, Midland had an overall record of 22-9 and a district record of 4-5. They ended up placing 3rd in their district. Midland was ranked #29 in Texas 6A baseball before the playoffs. The Bulldogs have also been consistently good, making the playoffs 3 straight years in a row.
“Midland’s pitching was their strong suit, and they could hit the ball for power,” Orozco said, “Overall they were a very solid team.”
The team defeated Midland 8-6 for game one of the series. Jackie Gross started on the hill and Anthony (AJ) Rivas closed the game out. The same outcome happened with the baseball team defeating Midland 8-4. Jaxon Baptist started on the hill with Julian Almanzan closing it out.
“It felt so electric just having a lot of people coming out to support our baseball team”, Sophomore, AJ Rivas, said.
The next playoff series will take place at Midland High on Friday, May 9th, and Saturday, May 10th. The 3rd game is to be determined. The baseball team hopes to keep this hot streak going and will be taking on Bryon Nelson.
